Originally from San Jose in California’s Bay Area, I relocated to Reno, Nevada over 15 years ago, where I have built both my personal and professional life. As a former single father, I raised my son independently before blending my family through marriage and helping to raise four stepchildren. These experiences deepened my understanding of resilience, growth, and the importance of strong support systems. Before entering the field of mental health, I pursued a career in basketball — playing at the collegiate level, competing semi-professionally in the Bay Area, and eventually playing professionally in Copenhagen, Denmark. My athletic background taught me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance — qualities that now serve me in my work as a therapist. My passion for mental health is rooted in personal experience. Having once needed support during a difficult time, I am committed to being a catalyst for change in others’ lives. I meet a client where they are at in the moment. I take time learning from each client what brings them in for a session, most often a change is desired from yesterday in the present for a better tomorrow. Everyone’s lived experience is of value and something to build on and/or explore; thus identifying current strengths and aspects that might benefit from shoring up to more easily make the change/shift desired. In my own counseling experience, I sought better counselors when I needed a change, someone who “got me.” That is what brought me to the profession. I work with teens, adults, and elders, individuals, couples, and families. I am LGBTQIA2s+, kink/poly/alternative lifestyle, (GRSM (Gender, romantic and sexual minority) allied. I have worked as an LMFT-intern and LMFT here at Lifequest Behavioral Health Care since January 2020. Prior work includes 20 years in college disability services at University of Nevada, Reno. Before coming to Reno, I worked for Texas Commission for the Blind as an Independent Living instructor and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. I incorporate techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Brief Solution Focused, Internal Family Systems, and Gottman Method (Level II certified). Outside of work I enjoy spending time with family and friends cycling, swimming, camping, playing games (board, table-top RPGs, card, and video), going to movies or live performances, or reading fiction. Since beginning my work in mental health in 2017 and becoming fully licensed in 2021, I’ve provided care across residential, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings, working with a wide range of clients and clinical needs. My therapeutic approach integrates bottom-up interventions and lifestyle strategies to help clients reduce symptoms that interfere with their daily lives and relationships. I hope to offer support and meaningful feedback during the healing process. I believe in meeting people where they are, and my clients often describe me as relatable, funny, and kind. I bring a deep understanding of how psychotropic medications play a role in therapy and gained this experience in working with co-occurring disorders, serious mental illness, and individuals with intellectual disabilities. In addition to advanced training in drug and alcohol counseling, I am newly trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), expanding the tools I can offer clients in their healing journey. Lauren earned her Master's Degree in Psychology from Palo Alto University and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Oregon. She is training to become a Clinical Professional Counselor, focusing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Lauren is a licensed behavior technician and has previously worked with children with autism spectrum disorder. In addition to LifeQuest, she currently works in the Intensive Outpatient Program at Northern Nevada HOPES. Lauren is seeing clients of all ages, and is excited to continue to learn and grow in her profession. When Lauren isn’t at Disneyland, you can find her cheering on her Oregon Ducks or hanging out in Graeagle with her family. Lauren also helps coach Reno High School’s We the People team in her free time.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Intern in the state of Nevada and California. My work is to the point and focused on the issues that cause my clients the most distress. I work with kids, teens, and adults using evidence-based theoretical models that are backed by research and my years of experience, such as CBT and DBT. My friends, family, and work colleagues describe me as easy to get along with and dedicated. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which are proven methods to help my clients understand why they think and react the way they do. Then I help them to adjust the unhelpful thoughts to achieve more effective thoughts, emotions and behaviors.

I have been working in mental health in California and Nevada for twenty years. Primarily with teens and their families that are struggling with life's difficulties. Since the pandemic and rise of social media the incidence of depression and anxiety in teens has risen over 4000%. No wonder parents and families need some help these days!

I have lived in Reno since 1997, drawn to its rich cultural community and opportunities to raise my two children. In 1995, my son experienced a traumatic brain injury, which became a turning point in my life. Navigating his educational and support needs inspired my passion for advocacy and working with individuals with disabilities.

Through this journey, I served on the Washoe County Mental Health Consortium, the Governor’s boards for juvenile justice funding, the System of Care writing committee, the Children in Transition board, and the Mental Health Planning Advisory Board—all while maintaining full-time employment. These experiences deepened my commitment to supporting individuals and families facing mental health challenges.

I hold a Bachelor’s in Human Services Management and a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling. For the past 4.5 years, I have worked with both adults and children, helping clients recognize their strengths and navigate life’s challenges. As a CPC-I clinician with Life Quest Behavioral Health Care, I am excited to continue serving individuals with disabilities who are ready to begin their journey toward self-discovery and fulfillment.

My therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Reality Therapy to promote stability, growth, and goal achievement. I look forward to empowering each client to live life to the fullest.
